A performance of "Thriller" with more than 50 zombies "coming to life" will be one of the many tributes to the late Michael Jackson at C Star Productionz's annual dance showcase "ALL 4 U," Feb. 20 at the Mandeville Theater on the UCSD campus.
The performance, which features dancers, ages 4 to 70, will be a collection of many styles of dance performed by California's leading artists. It will double as a benefit to raise funds for young adults in San Diego who are homeless.
Christopher Estrella, the director and founder of C-Star Productionz, has been dancing, choreographing, and teaching hip hop for some 10 years. His dance career coupled with the volunteer work he has done with troubled youth, has led to a twofold vision: to give performers the chance to live out their passions, and to give homeless youth the opportunity to have better lives.
Estrella is partnering with Jeffery Sitcov, founder of Photocharity, who anticipates raising $1 million for his latest project "The House of Hope," a shelter for the homeles, ages 18-24. Currently, there is no facility for this age group in the San Diego area.
Photocharity and C-star Productionz will work together to reach their goals. "I want House of Hope to be a refuge from the world, a place where homeless young adults can go to help get the educational or job skills they need to make it on their own," Sitcov said. He has a $1 million goal for the dance showcase.
