Carmel Valley concert to be held April 17

The St. Thérèse of Carmel Catholic Church will hold its annual Palm Sunday Concert on Sunday, April 17 at 3 p.m. A beautiful program has been planned featuring Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem with choir and chamber orchestra. Also on the program are Miserere by Gregorio Allegri and Ave Verum Corpus by William Byrd. The music is directed by Stephen Coggeshall, accompanied by Viktor Shekhtman.

The beautiful Requiem, composed shortly after Fauré’s father death, is one of the most well-loved choral pieces. After the initial performance, the composer added two new movements to the original composition: the lyrical Pie Jesu and the transcendant In Paradisum. Both have become well-known and beloved throughout the world. The Miserere is a famous example of Renaissance choral music. The music, with its men’s chants and soaring soprano lines, is compelling and inspiring.

Soloists for the performance are Caroline Coggeshall, Theresa Coggeshall, Kristen Fallon, Sheila Caldarelli, Dan Maneval, and Tony Krzmarzick.

The church is located at 4355 Del Mar Trails Road, San Diego 92130. Admission is free and a reception follows in the new Parish Hall. All are welcome to this Palm Sunday event.
