Community invited to public arts forum Dec. 1

As San Diego County has grown over the past decade, so has its arts community, and there is now an effort under way to provide support. Leading the drive is April Game, executive director of Art Pulse, a four-year-old arts services organization with a mission to support the health of the arts countywide. A series of public forums, co-presented by directors from arts councils around the state, are taking place weekly to illuminate what county arts councils are, what they do, and to identify the services that San Diego County needs most.

Art Pulse is committed to making sure the forums reach each area of the county and that everyone has an opportunity to attend, ask questions and be heard.

“The only way we will know what our cities need and want is to go there and ask them. We are not stopping at arts leaders, but including our mayors and civic leaders, and opening the conversation to the general community,” says Game. “What are your questions? Your hopes? What are your fears? Let’s talk about them. We are in this together, let’s build this together.”

Art Pulse and the City of Solana Beach are co-hosting a forum at Solana Beach City Hall (635 S. Highway 101) on Thursday, Dec. 1, from 6-8 p.m., to reach North County residents.

“The City of Solana Beach is excited to host this informational community forum which will explore the potential of forming a County Arts Council,” says City of Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner. “The City has been a longtime supporter of art and culture in our community, so we’re interested in learning more about the potential to promote and expand the arts throughout the region.”

Upcoming forums are scheduled in East County on Dec. 8, co-hosted by the City of El Cajon, with presenters Michelle Williams, executive director of the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County and Kristina Williams, executive director of Napa Valley Arts Council (El Cajon Public Library, 201 E. Douglas Ave., 6-8 p.m.); and a North County Inland forum in Escondido Dec. 15, with presenters Patrick Brien, executive director of Riverside Arts Council and Richard Stein of Arts Orange County (California Center for the Arts, 340 N. Escondido Blvd, 6-8 p.m.). For more information and to register for a forum, call April Game at (858) 205-4354 or email rsvp@artpulse.org. Art Pulse is a nonprofit organization under 501(C)3 status.
