The Del Mar Union School District held another meeting this week to finalize details on its new district office. On Dec. 29, the district closed escrow on the purchase of the $4,326,435 building at 11232 El Camino Real in Carmel Valley.
According to the district, the next steps will be requesting quotes and building out tenant improvements on the interior of the building. This work is expected to be complete in time for a July 2011 move-in.
“It has taken a while, but this new home for the district office will provide a comfortable and central location for parents to register their children and for our administrative staff to continue to serve every school efficiently,” said board President Comischell Rodriguez. “I am so pleased that this building became available and that it will house nearly all of our departments.”
The district will continue looking at spaces to house maintenance and operations.
The new office building marks the end of a long process of searching for a new office, after the 9th Street Del Mar Shores property was sold in 2007 for $8.5 million to the city of Del Mar.
In 2008, the district even created a "7/11 committee" to look at the possibility of closing a school for its new office or co-locating an office with an operating school. The committee was never able to come to consensus on an option to close or co-locate and the district seriously began looking at potential properties in 2009.
