An evening of praise and worship in song by Jeff and Vangie Gunn on March 19 will kick off the 2011 concert season at Calvary Lutheran Church.
The Gunns, who are working studio musicians, have sung on a wide variety of projects, from movie and TV soundtracks to jingles and their own CDs. They have also performed at many live worship events, including with Billy Graham, Promise Keepers, Harvest Crusade, and Tommy Walker’s Tours.
The Temecula couple recently led Calvary’s adult choir while its director, Stanley G. Beard, was on sabbatical.
“They are dynamic musicians, and they sing what they believe,” said Linda Kewin, a choir member at the church.
The other performances on tap at Calvary this year are:
: The Believers: the choir of Sweden’s Piteå College of Music – will sing a varied repertoire, from traditional hymns and classical music to Swedish folk and jazz.
Eve Selis and her Blazing Band of Ruffians will perform. The local singer and songwriter has put out numerous CDs and was named Best Americana Artist at the 2010 San Diego Music Awards. Among her musical influences are rhythm and blues, rock ‘n’ roll, folk and country. An optional barbecue dinner will be served.
Mark Price will give dramatic readings as he portrays the life of Saint Joseph — next to Mary, the one who knew Jesus the best. Price has been playing Biblical figures for a quarter-century in churches, halls and theaters and on film around the world.
The Gunn concert will start at 7 p.m. at Calvary, which is at 424 Via de la Valle, just north of the San Diego County Fairgrounds.
Tickets are $20 for each of the four events, $15 for ages 17 to 10, and free for children younger than 10. Subscriptions for all four performances cost $60.
