Santa Fe Christian helps Great Halloween Candy Buy Back

By Karen Billing

The Great Halloween Candy Buy Back was again a huge success in Carmel Valley, taking 2,298 pounds of sweets off the streets. Presented by Dr. Curtis Chan, children swapped candy for cash at North County Dance Arts in Carmel Country Plaza on Nov. 3.

The Nov. 3 buy back brought in 948 pounds of candy for the troops, as well as 58 Beanie Babies and 151 heartfelt, handmade cards. Members of the military were there to greet and thank them and each child left with a toothbrush kit.

Helping boost the total, Santa Fe Christian Schools participated again this year and collected an additional 570 pounds of candy, 158 Beanie Babies and 614 cards. Ralphs and Vons also made donations, totaling 780 pounds.

The candy and Beanie Babies help troops connect with local children in the areas they are serving. The children’s sweet cards help show them someone back home is thinking of them and is grateful for all they do.
