Del Mar resident Cami Mattson has been recruited to fill the newly created position of director of community relations for Cox Communications’ California operations, announced Sam Attisha, vice president of Business Development and External Affairs for Cox Communications.
In her new role, Mattson is responsible for strategic direction and planning for all of the company’s community relations efforts and corporate giving in California, which includes San Diego, Orange County, Palos Verdes and Santa Barbara. She will also provide leadership to the community relations team and integrate initiatives with all of Cox’s departments for strategic alignment.
Mattson previously served as the president and CEO of the San Diego North Convention and Visitors Bureau for 21 years. She was instrumental in changing the organization from a city bureau to a San Diego North regional bureau with a distinct destination brand. Her entrepreneurial spirit has earned her many leadership awards, including the 2009 Jack Raymond Community Leadership Award.
“Cami brings a vast amount of experience and knowledge in community relations, government relations, sales, and marketing,” said Attisha. “She is very active in the community and has built strong partnerships with non-profits and government agencies.”
She has served on the board of directors for the San Diego County Hotel Motel Association, the executive board for the California Travel Industry Association, and is a past president for the Western Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus.
Mattson earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations/communications from Brigham Young University.
Mattson has been known to make treks to Mount Everest and Kilimanjaro.
