Shelley Petersen, who has been the principal at Ashley Falls Elementary School since 2005, has been promoted to the district office.

Del Mar Union School District trustees named her as the new assistant superintendent of instructional services at their July 25 meeting.

District superintendent Holly McClurg, who was presiding over her first meeting since assuming her new post on July 1, said Petersen is known for “her love of children and support for teachers” and noted that they are looking for her to lead the district’s instructional programs along “wonderful new paths.”

Prior to joining the Del Mar Union School District, Petersen was a principal, assistant principal, and teacher at the Vista Unified School District.

Trustees also announced that Chris Delehanty will take Petersen’s spot as principal at the elementary school. He started in the district as a long-term substitute and taught at Sage Canyon School before becoming assistant principal at Ocean Air, Sage Canyon and Torrey Hills schools.

In saluting Petersen and Delehanty in their new roles, McClurg said, “We love to build our own leadership capacity.”
