In an effort to protect families and homes from wildfires, the City of Del Mar is delivering free dumpsters to allow for a complimentary curbside vegetation pickup from Sept. 10 through Sept. 24.
The effort is in hopes that residents will thin out their vegetation and improve their defensible space. Permits are not needed to prune trees or branches hanging over roofs or chimneys, regardless of the species. For trees near power lines, city officials recommend hiring a professional tree trimmer.
To have a free dumpster delivered, contact Waste Management at (800) 386-7783 no later than Aug. 31. Small loads may also be placed at the curb on normal trash day.
