Several local kids recently took time out of their busy summer to hold a lemonade stand at Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach to raise money for the children in Carretas, Mexico. According to local mother Catherine Brooks, they learned about the children through KidsGames, a summer camp held at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church (see page 16).

The children in Carretas had nowhere to go and had to play in the city dump, Brooks said.  In 2008, the church built a community center in Carretas. This year, local kids and parents raised money to build a sport court for the children in Carretas by holding a bake sale and car wash at the camp.

“We decided to do a lemonade stand on our own to raise more money,” Brooks said via email. “We also sold rice crispy treats. We raised $80.16.”
