On Saturday, April 28, the Rotary Club of Del Mar got to work. They grabbed fellow Rotarians, family members, Rotaract members (Rotary for college students) and friends to spruce up three facilities that needed a little care and attention in our local community. This effort joined hundreds of thousands of other Rotarians worldwide serving their local communities on the 7th annual Rotarians At Work Day.

Del Mar Rotarian and local interior designer Corena Kessel had a vision for using her talents in design for the good work that Rotary can accomplish for others. When Bill Rider, CEO of the American Combat Veterans of War (ACVOW), spoke to the Rotary Club about the work they do with soldiers and Post Traumatic Stress therapy, Corena knew this could be an opportunity to give back. With the assistance of 12 other Rotarians and donated goods made by local businesses, the ACVOW family therapy room was transformed with painted walls, hanging flags, window treatments, indoor plants, rugs and more.

The Rotary Club of Del Mar also continued its partnership with Nativity Prep Academy in San Diego on April 28. Nativity Prep Academy is an accredited, tuition-free middle school serving more than 60 low-income middle school students and another 100 high school and college students. Del Mar Rotarians linked with a local Rotaract Club to spruce up the facilities for these very deserving children and youth.

Del Mar Rotarians also spent time on the continued work at the San Dieguito River Park. The club has been supporting the ecological efforts near the San Dieguito Lagoon with planting efforts, trail maintenance and sustainability projects for many years.

If you would like to learn how the Rotary Club of Del Mar serves those locally and globally on a daily basis, please join us for a meeting on Thursdays at noon at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Visit www.delmarrotary.org for more information.
