Santa Fe Christian rolled up 289 rushing yards on their way to a 38-0 trouncing of La Jolla in a nonleague game on Sept. 22.

The Eagles, who were coming off a tough 28-14 nonleague loss to Westview the previous week, left nothing to chance, outscoring their opponents 31-0 in a first half highlighted by a 24-point second quarter outburst.

Quarterback Hunter Vaccaro led the Eagles offensively, rushing for 95 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries and throwing for another score.

Tony Miro was the Eagles’ leading rusher with 106 yards on 13 carries.

Troy Zarubin led the Eagles defensively with seven tackles and two sacks, and Darrian Borboa and Hakon Bream each contributed six tackles.

The Eagles held La Jolla to just 43 yards of total offense.

SFC improved its overall record for the season to 2-2.

In a game in which the Torrey Pines’ defense allowed no points, the Falcons ran into a defense Vista defense that managed to do one better - taking a few away.

A Vista safety late in the second quarter went for the only scoring play in a 2-0 victory over the Falcons in a nonleague game on Sept. 21.

The Falcons were held to just 103 yards of total offense.

Billy Maggs rushed for 30 yards on 10 carries to lead the Falcons. Chase Pickwell gained 26 yards on four carries and Mark Dertow gained 25 rushing yards on four carries.

Falcons quarterback Mike Ward completed 3 of 6 passes for 21 yards with no interceptions.

The loss snapped a two-game Falcons winning streak and extended their string of quarters in which they haven’t allowed a field goal or a touchdown to nine.

The Falcons overall record for the season fell to 2-2.

For the second time in three weeks, Cathedral Catholic took a lead into the fourth quarter but couldn’t close the deal.

The Dons took a three point lead into the fourth quarter of a Sept. 21 nonleague loss to Vista Murrieta 21-10 on Sept. 21.

The Dons led by 10 points going into the fourth quarter of a 24-17 nonleague loss to Torrey Pines on Sept. 7.

Tony Johnson rushed for 98 yards and one touchdown on 32 carries to lead the Dons in the Vista Murrieta game.

The Dons overall record for the season fell to 2-2.

San Diego Jewish Academy lost to Maranatha Christian 35-7 in a Pacific League opener for both teams on Sept. 20.

Lions quarterback Micah Weinstein completed 13 of 27 pass attempts for 250 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Jeremy Danzig rushed for 64 yards on six carries.

Ethan Laser caught six passes for 85 yards and Adam Sharf caught four passes for 66 yards.

Laser led the Lions defensively with 14 tackles, and Weinstein contributed 12 tackles.

The Lions fell to 0-3 overall for the season.


Canyon Crest Academy defeated La Jolla Country Day 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-11) in nonleague game on Sept. 21.
