Boys basketball:

After spending most of the last six weeks chasing its Palomar League nemesis, Torrey Pines caught up when it mattered most.

The Falcons won out their last three games, which combined with Mt. Carmel experiencing an upset loss on the second-to-last day of the regular season resulted in the two teams splitting the league championship.

The Falcons moved into a two-way tie for first place when they made easy work of Rancho Bernardo in a 70-39 victory on Feb. 13, and Canyon Crest Academy defeated Mt. Carmel 70-55 on the same day.

They secured their share of the title with a 62-53 win against CCA in a regular season finale for both teams on Feb. 15.

Sam Worman scored 20 points to lead the Falcons in the Rancho Bernardo game and Dominic Hovasse added 13 points.

Worman led the Falcons with 19 points in the CCA game.

Hovasse and Brandon Cyrus each contributed 12 points and Zack Wagner added 10 points.

The Falcons improved to 8-2 in league and 18-9 overall for the season.

Cathedral Catholic completed its unbeaten Western League championship season in emphatic fashion as the Dons trounced La Jolla 66-36 in a league finale for both teams on Feb. 14.

The victory followed a 71-58 win against Lincoln two days earlier.

Niksha Federico scored 17 points and had seven rebounds to lead the Dons to their 12th league win in the La Jolla game.

Federico had six points and led the team with eight rebounds.

The Dons improved to 12-0 in league and 24-3 overall for the season.

In a year when Canyon Crest Academy didn’t challenge for the Palomar League title, the Ravens certainly had a say in the outcome.

Embracing their role as spoilers, the Ravens upset Mt. Carmel  70-55 in a league game on Feb. 13, opening the door for Torrey Pines to grab a share of title.

It was the second time this season that CCA upset Mt. Carmel, which was unbeaten in its eight other league games.

Riley Adams and James Chenevey each scored 21points to lead the Ravens, and Jeremy Dawson added 15 points.

The Ravens improved to 5-5 in league and 15-13 overall for the season.

Santa Fe Christian ended Coastal League play on a winning note as the Eagles defeated Horizon 54-45 in a regular season finale for both teams on Feb. 15.

The victory followed a 61-40 league loss to Army-Navy, which was their third loss in four games.

Grant Corsi scored 25 points to lead the Eagles in the Horizon game and Brian Finley added 16 points.

Corsi scored 23 points to lead the Eagles in the Army-Navy game and Jack Langborg added seven points.
