Boys basketball:

Torrey Pines jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as the Falcons defeated Canyon Crest Academy 80-59 in a Palomar League game on Jan. 31.

The win followed 60-55 league victory over Poway three days earlier.

Jack Beach scored 18 points and Brandon Cyrus scored 17 points to lead the Falcons against CCA.

Dominic Hovasse contributed 14 points and six assists and Sam Worman added 12 points.

Worman scored 27 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Falcons in the Poway game.

Cyrus added 14 points and five assists and Connor Milmoe contributed 11 points.

The Falcons improved to 4-0 in league and 19-4 overall for the season.


Rumors of Cathedral Catholic’s Western League demise after two consecutive losses were apparently greatly exaggerated.

The Dons bounced back from a bad week with two decisive league victories; 61-34 against Mission Bay on Jan. 28 and 59-42  over on Jan. 31.

Cameron Moore scored 19 points to lead the Dons in the Mission Bay game and Reid Johnson and Kevin McNeela added 14 and 10 points, respectively.

McNeela scored 16 points to lead the Dons against University City.

Moore contributed 14 points and Johnson added 10 points.

The Falcons improved to 5-2 in league and 13-7 overall for the season.


San Diego Jewish Academy extended its winning streak to four games as the Lions defeated Escondido Charter 63-48 in a Pacific League game on Feb. 3.

The victory followed a 58-50 league win against Pacific Ridge on Jan. 29 and a 52-50 victory over Escondido Charter two days earlier.

Judah Rosenzweig scored 29 points to lead the Lions in the Escondido Charter game and Adam Sloane and Aaron Perez added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Adam Sharf scored 20 points and Rosenzweig scored 16 points and had 19 rebounds to lead the Lions against Pacific Ridge.

Rosenzweig scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Lions in the Escondido Charter game and Jake Posnock added 12 points.

The Lions improved to 5-2 in league and 14-4 overall for the season.

Girls basketball:

Torrey Pines solidified its frontrunner status in the Palomar League as the Falcons defeated Canyon Crest Academy 81-35 for their fifth straight win and their 11th in 12 games.

Sierra Campisano scored 28 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Falcons and Christina Ellis contributed 24 points.

Ayli Tulberg added 15 points.

McKenna Platt scored eight points in defeat for CCA and Grace Weinzettle and Erin McBurnett each added seven points.

The Falcons victory followed a 61-52 win against Poway on Jan. 28 in which Campisano led the way with 26 points and 15 rebounds and Ellis added 12 points.

The Falcons improved to 4-0 in league and 15-5 overall for the season.


Cathedral Catholic is making its run at a Western League championship look easy.

The Dons remained unbeaten in league play with a decisive 56-37 victory over University City on Jan. 31.

They were coming off a 68-12 drubbing of Mission Bay three days earlier.
