Five students from Santa Fe Christian School scored in the top 4 percent of the nation on the PSAT, qualifying them for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Juniors Jason Anthony, Katie Brown, Andy Huang, Keziah Sonder-Plattner and Karamarie White have been invited to report this information to two colleges or universities, highlighting their outstanding academic potential.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, only 50,000 out of 1.5 million program entrants achieve this high academic honor. The five SFC students will be notified in September regarding their final National Merit status, commended, semi-finalists or finalists.

All five students take Advanced Placement and Honors courses. They also participate in athletics, student government, theatre productions, campus clubs and community service opportunities.

"It's really great to be selected for this honor," said Anthony, who plans on reporting this information to Stanford and USC.

"Santa Fe Christian has provided me with the opportunities to be able to reach my academic goals while playing water polo, serving on student government and leading campus clubs. Being recognized by National Merit will hopefully give me an edge over the competition."

Anthony plans on pursuing a degree in business.

In 2008, Santa Fe Christian seniors, Thomas Changaris and Devin King, were commended by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Colleges that presented acceptance letters to Changaris and King include Cornell, Duke, Notre Dame, Stanford, Georgetown, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego and UC Davis.

Of the 50,000 who qualify for the program, about 16,000 will be named National Merit Program Semifinalists, representing the top scores in each state. Semifinalists will continue to compete for 8,200 National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2010.

Santa Fe Christian Schools is a Christian, college preparatory school located in Solana Beach, CA. For more information please contact us at: (858) 755-8900 or www.sfcs.net
