The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
On Aug. 15 shortly before 1 p.m., employees of the Chase Bank, 607 Lomas Santa Fe Drive, Solana Beach, noticed a man acting in an extremely nervous manner. The man, later identified as 25-year-old Sean Michael Maloney, was pacing back and forth outside the bank.
Maloney looked suspicious enough that the bank manager called 911. When Maloney finally entered the bank he noticed he was being watched far more closely by some of the bank employees than usual. Maloney left the bank and resumed his pacing. After several minutes Maloney entered the bank again. He was still very nervous. One of the tellers felt a bank robbery was imminent and activated the silent alarm. Deputy Brian Bloomberg was very close to the bank and responded immediately.
Before Bloomberg arrived Mr. Maloney left the bank again. Maloney was getting just getting ready to light a cigarette when he was challenged by Bloomberg. Maloney attempted to get rid of the demand note he had prepared for the teller, but he did so in full view of the deputy. Maloney and his note were both seized. Mr. Maloney will be taken to the Vista Detention Facility where he will be booked for burglary.
