Michelle Rose Gilman, Fusion founder, cuts the ribbon with Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce representatives and the teachers and staff at Fusion.
Fusion Academy and Learning Center, a Solana Beach-based school that provides customized one-to-one academic and life skills education, celebrated its 20th anniversary on Sept. 24 and revealed plans to open two more Southern California schools in 2010.

Michelle Rose Gilman, the school's founder, recounted the history of the school that started in her garage, for more than 100 attendees. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Solana Beach chamber, Gilman announced that Fusion was identified by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest-growing businesses in America this year and will open in Los Angeles in March and in Orange County in fall 2010.

"The Fusion team is not one to sit on our laurels for too long," Gilman said. "We thrive as we grow and we grow in order to thrive. As we witness, year after year, the enormous success in our San Diego children, it makes sense for us to reach more kids in need of our unique one-to-one model of education."

Grace Colman Losada, a former teacher at Fusion, will be head of school at Fusion's Los Angeles location.
