San Diego Science Festival announces schedule
Nov 19, 2009

Padres pitcher Chris Young has fun with science at the news conference announcing that the 2010 San Diego Science Festival's Expo Day will be held at Petco Park.
The run-up to the 2010 San Diego Science Festival began last week with the announcement that the weeklong event will culminate with its Expo Day at Petco Park.

Focused on science activities and exploration, the free events begin March 20 and run through March 27. The festival will feature events at venues around the city, including Balboa Park, public libraries, San Diego State University, private companies, UCSD and area schools.

The closing Expo Day will be an interactive exploration of science offering attendees more than 150 hands-on exhibits and experiments by science and technology firms, research labs, universities and local schools.

In 2010, Life Technologies will be the lead sponsor as the festival puts the focus on the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

The festival is organized by UCSD, with the support of community collaborators. The university received a
$3 million National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to fund the year-round festival efforts and to develop festival sites in San Francisco through UC San Francisco; Cambridge, Mass., through the MIT Museum; and Philadelphia through The Franklin Institute.
