Sen. Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego, Wednesday said she is considering introducing legislation to create a greenway along the San Dieguito River near the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
Kehoe said the greenway would provide public access to the ocean and provide habitat for wildlife.
"I support the continued successful operation of the Del Mar Fairgrounds, race track and horse park, and am equally supportive of public access and protecting the wetlands habitat immediately north of the river," Kehoe said in a statement. "This new greenway would restore a natural buffer and extend the Coast to Crest Trail toward the ocean."
Kehoe said she is considering introducing legislation next year to ask a state agency to determine the appropriate size of a greenway buffer area along the San Dieguito River.
A proposal is in the works to build a condominium-hotel and fitness center on the grounds of the Del Mar Fairgrounds, according to Kehoe's office. Plans also call for the replacement of exhibit halls and other projects.
