The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will continue managing horse racing at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in 2010, as the state agency that operates the fairgrounds approved the DMTC's contract for one year.
"It's been extended for one year, and then an RFP is scheduled to go out probably ballpark in February, and the goal would be to solicit bids and then make a selection in the fall and go forward with a new contract beginning 2011," fairgrounds General Manager Tim Fennell said.
Horse racing in Southern California will run from Dec. 26 until Dec. 19, 2010, after the California Horse Racing Board met to decide dates for the state Oct. 15.
Santa Anita racing days kicked of the schedule on Dec. 26. The Santa Anita meets will run through April 18. Hollywood Park's spring and summer meet will run April 21 to July 18 and racing days for Del Mar are slated for July 21 to Sept. 8. The Fairplex was approved for Sept. 9 to 27, with Oak Tree at Santa Anita following from Sept. 29 to Oct. 31. Hollywood Park meets will start Nov. 3 and run through Dec. 19.
Although it has been granted its traditional dates, Hollywood Park is approved for redevelopment by the city of Inglewood and has not committed to racing through 2010, according to a Blood Horse report.
