Del Mar Community Connections shuttle broken into

The Del Mar Community Connections shuttle bus was broken into sometime between last Thursday and Wednesday morning, Program Director Heather Glenn said Wednesday.

She said the bus was parked in the upper City Hall lot along side the trash dumpster shed, adjacent to Camino del Mar.

DMCC uses the bus to drive residents to the grocery story twice a week and on occasional special outings, such as shopping trips to the mall or entertainment events in the area.

The bus was last used on Thursday for a grocery trip. When the DMCC driver went to start up the bus Wednesday morning, he found that two small windows in the rear were broken. Glenn said it appears the person who broke in reached inside and opened a larger window above and gained access to the van.

"It looks like they tried to steal the radio, but they didn't," Glenn said. "Because of the damage, we were not able to take our seniors grocery shopping today," Glenn said on Wednesday. "We'll be renting a minivan to take them shopping until the repairs can be made to the bus."

The air was also let out of one of the rear tires.

Anyone with information should contact the sheriff's department at (760) 966-3500.
