Recent rains have led to an early bloom of wildflowers at the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in Borrego Springs.
Blooms of sand verbena, brittlebush and desert lily are popping up around the park.
Paul Johnson, an environmental services intern at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, predicts a "very good to outstanding" wildflower bloom this spring in the park, with the peak expected between the last week of this month into the middle of March.
When the bloom reaches its peak, massive fields of wildflowers are visible at the north edge of Borrego Springs on Henderson Canyon Road and at the northern end of DiGiorgio Road, park officials said. Wildflowers can also be found along desert washes or in the park's canyons.
