An open letter to Solana Beach from Councilman Dave Roberts

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

In my time on the city council, my commitment to you, and to all the residents of Solana Beach, has been to always communicate openly and honestly as we made decisions about the city's future. So I wanted to explain to you my recent decision to run for Congress in the 50th District.

As you know, I had the honor of serving as your Mayor last year and am now serving my second term on city council. Serving as one of your representatives on the City Council has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I have always tried to listen and make the best possible decisions for our city's long-term future. From my parents and grandparents, I learned early that giving back to one's community is its own reward, a value I have embraced and will pass on to my children.

Life is a journey and I have found strong agreement with my family and supporters to seek the Democratic nomination for the 50th Congressional District in order to provide a clear choice on who will be our next Representative.

I am deeply concerned about so many issues like creating jobs - especially green jobs - and restoring our fragile economy in a fiscally responsible manner, reforming our broken health care system, protecting our environment, passing comprehensive healthcare reform and providing a high-quality education for all children.

During my time on the city council, I have worked hard to address many of the challenges we face, both as a city and across the region - through the council and also with the North County Transit District, SANDAG Public Safety Committee, League of California Cities, San Dieguito River Valley Joint Powers Authority, San Elijo Joint Powers Authority, and the county's Consolidated Transportation Services Agency.

I believe it's time for me to take our Solana Beach values to Washington, D.C.

While a campaign can be extremely hectic, I will continue to work tirelessly for quality of life issues that we all cherish which makes our wonderful community so special.

With sincere appreciation for your continued support,

Dave Roberts
Solana Beach City Councilman
