1 killed, 2 injured in crash on SR-125

A driver was killed and her two passengers injured in a single-vehicle crash late Wednesday on a La Mesa freeway, authorities said.

The crash happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on northbound state Route 125 approaching westbound Interstate 8, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said.

The connector ramp, a steep one-lane loop, was closed for more than five hours but reopened about 4:45 a.m. Thursday.

The driver, a 63-year-old National City woman, died in the rollover crash, Garrow said.

He said she was speeding onto the transition road, hit a retaining wall along the north edge and overturned. Two passengers, a 39-year-old Lemon Grove man and a 54-year-old San Diego woman, suffered moderate to major injuries.

All three were wearing seat belts, Garrow said.

10News reported that witnesses kicked out the windshield of the overturned car to help save the front-seat passenger.
