A few clouds, but holiday weekend weather should be pleasant

The start of September could look a tiny bit like May at the coast, but weather over the Labor Day weekend is shaping up to be pleasant.

In the meantime, a minor heat wave should raise temperatures a few degrees the last two days of August. San Diego is expected to hit 82 Thursday and Friday, five degrees above normal, and the inland valleys could reach the low 90s.

The National Weather Service says a coastal eddy will form Friday night, and that should cool things off slightly and bring the return of late-night and early-morning low clouds at the beaches as September begins Saturday morning. The clouds could extend into the inland valleys.

But the clouds aren’t expected to hang around all day. Coastal highs should remain in the low 80s through Sunday, then drop to to the high 70s on Labor Day. The valleys should be in the upper 80s through the weekend.

Beachgoers over the holiday weekend should find ocean temperatures slightly cooler than they were earlier this month but still above normal and in the low 70s.

High clouds that have contributed to colorful sunsets and sunrises this week are expected to return through the weekend.
