Ever wonder if Jerry Rice is as good in his short game as he was at catching the long ball?
Coming April 24 to 26 is a chance to find out, as the Hall of Fame receiver will join other professional athletes in the 2009 Celebrity Classic at Morgan Run Resort and Club.
The tournament has raised over $1 million for local charities including their biggest benefactor Rady Children's Hospital.
Tee times are 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
The 11th annual event will feature NFL players including Drew Brees, Nate Kaeding, Jan Stenerud; Major League Baseball greats such as Rollie Fingers, Vince Coleman, Phil Nevin and Goose Gossage; and Olympians including Mike Eruzione, Dan Jansen, Bruce Jenner and Bode Miller. Comedian Ray Romano is also expected to play.
Open to the public, fans can get free autographs from their favorites.
"I think it's outstanding that we're able to interact with the fans as much as we do and allow everyone to enjoy the festivities," said last year's winner, MLB great Mickey Tettleton in a release.
"In today's tough times, I am thankful to be a part of an event that gives back to the community as much as this Celebrity Classic does," Tettleton said.
Tickets to the tournament are $10 but children and guests with military ID get in free. Show your Ralph's Rewards Card at the gate and also get in for free. The first 500 children in attendance on April 26 will receive free snow cones, popcorn and entertainment. For more information, visit
