Red-hot Torrey Pines remains alone atop the Avocado League standings after stretching their season-long winning streak to 11 games with a three-game series sweep of Fallbrook.
The Falcons left nothing to chance, outscoring their opponent 22-5 on the series as they improved to 9-0 in league and 19-6 overall for the season.
Left-handed senior pitching standout Joey DeNato set the tone for the series, tossing a no-hitter in a 4-0 victory in the April 26 series opener.
DeNato struck out 14 batters and allowed just one walk, as he improved to 7-1 for the season.
Shane Bingham led the Falcons offensively, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Reed Mason pitched a complete game six-hitter in a 6-1 victory two days later in which he struck out seven batters and allowed two walks.
Andrew Goodman homered and drove in two runs for the Falcons.
Zack Zehner and Evan Mason each homered and DeNato had three hits and three RBI in a 12-4 route in the April 30 series finale.
Mason had three hits and two RBI, and Goodman had two hits including a double and drove in three runs.
- Within a stretch of two days, Santa Fe Christian was involved in a squeaker and a blowout.
The Eagles, who were coming off a two-week layoff, won on both occasions to remain unbeaten in Coastal League North play.
The Eagles scored the game-winner in their last at bat in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat San Dieguito Academy of Encinitas 2-1 on April 27.
Two days later, they trounced Army-Navy 10-0.
Graham Gomez started and pitched all eight innings for the win in the San Dieguito Academy game. He struck out seven batters and allowed one unearned run on three hits and no walks.
Cal Roberts had two of the Eagles' six hits and their only RBI.
John Gamble pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Eagles in the Army-Navy game. He struck out nine batters and allowed three walks.
Trevyn Reese and Bobby Zarubin each homered and were among four Eagles players with two RBI.
The Eagles improved to 4-0 in league and 12-4-1 overall for the season.
- Canyon Crest Academy had its three-game winning streak snapped as the Ravens experienced their first Coastal League South loss, 4-2, to Bishop's on April 29.
The loss followed a 7-1 victory over La Jolla Country Day on April 27.
The Ravens combined for 14 hits in the LJCD game. Matt Molott had three hits including a pair of doubles and Chris Hynes had three hits with a double and one RBI to lead the Ravens offensively.
Hynes had two hits in defeat for the Ravens in the Bishop's game.
The Ravens fell to 3-1 in league and 11-11 overall for the season.
- Torrey Pines continued its dominance of Avocado League play as the Falcons extended their winning streak to six games with a 3-0 victory over San Pasqual on April 29.
The Falcons also beat Fallbrook 6-2 in a league game two days earlier.
Freshman pitching standout Rachel Nasland tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout to lead the Falcons in the San Pasqual game.
She struck out 12 batters and allowed one walk in six innings in the Fallbrook game.
Nasland has yet to allow an earned run in 27 innings in league play.
Zeyna Gilliam and Mary Lee had the Falcons' only two hits and Kristen Filicia had two RBI to lead Torrey Pines in the San Pasqual game.
Lauren Filicia, Kristen Filicia and Alexa Lomborg each had two hits to lead the Falcons offensively in the Fallbrook game.
The Falcons improved to 4-0 in league and 18-4-2 overall for the season.
- Cathedral Catholic trounced La Jolla 12-0 in an Eastern League game on April 30.
The victory followed a 3-1 league victory over University City two days earlier.
Riley Price homered twice and drove in six runs to spark a 14-hit attack in the La Jolla game.
Dominique Madruga had three hits including a double for the Dons, and Bianca Buono and Amanda Gonzales each added two hits.
Jenna Shine pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout for the Dons.
The Dons improved to 5-1 in league and 14-7 overall for the season.
Beth Smetana had two hits including a homer and Buono added two hits to lead the Dons offensively in the University City game.
Courtney Rivera tossed a complete-game, four-hitter for the Dons. She struck out three batters and allowed no walks.
- Torrey Pines defeated Mission Hills of San Marcos 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-11) in a pivotal Avocado League match on April 29.
Torrey Pines improved to 7-1 in league and 15-12 overall for the season as it won its third straight match for the fifth time in sixth matches.
Sean Kemper had 12 kills and six blocks to lead the Falcons and Clint Hill contributed 10 kills.
- Torrey Pines extended its unbeaten streak in Avocado League play to 10 matches as the Falcons defeated San Pasqual of Escondido 195-212 on April 29 at Rancho Santa Fe Country Club.
David Smith and Jay Hwang each shot two-over-par 38 scores on the nine-hole course to lead the Falcons.
The Falcons improved to 10-0 in league and 23-1 overall for the season.
