Take a light breakfast of bagels and fruit, mix with a leisurely walk along San Dieguito Lagoon, add in warm memories of a loved friend or relative, and you have the perfect recipe for the second annual Jerry Finnell Memorial Lagoon Walk, "Remembering Our Loved Ones."
Sponsored by Del Mar Community Connections, the May 22 event will begin from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Del Mar Fire Station where an informal breakfast of fruit, bagels, coffee or fruit will be served. Commemorative ribbons will be available at the site for personalized dedication to a loved one. Later the ribbons are to go on a memorial wreath to be displayed at the Del Mar Library.
Docents from the San Dieguito River Conservancy who are experts in habitat areas and bird life of the lagoon will be stationed along the lagoon path. Dogs on leash will be allowed to join in the walk. Hats and sunscreen are advised. Convenient parking will be available; seniors may request rides by calling (858) 792-7656.
Chris Englebrecht, Lagoon Walk chair, said proceeds from donations will go toward the Care Management Program sponsored by Del Mar Community Connections, a program that helps maturing adults and their families develop solutions to the challenges of aging. Donations are $25 adult, $15 per child.
"We hope residents of all ages will join us in the walk to explore our lagoon, while at the same time remember our loved ones, Englebrecht said.
