I’m running to ensure that as we update and improve our neighborhoods and business districts, they retain the unique beachside character that drew us here in the first place. Additionally, I’m running to make sure the council maintains its current practice of listening to and responding to all residents, not just to a narrow set of special interests.
I’ve been a businesswoman for the past 30 years, first as a stockbroker for a Fortune 500 company, then as founder of a successful culinary and kitchen design business. I understand business! As your councilmember, I bring a proven record of dedication to preserving community character, fiscal accountability as demonstrated by completing full pension reform in our city, balancing the budget for eight years, including $32.5 million in total reserves, and protecting high public safety service levels while keeping costs under control.
Our challenge is to attract revenues to ensure our economic viability without sacrificing community character.
Knowing our city’s small town coastal feel and eclectic style are the foundation for our desirable location and high property values, I will safeguard these attributes as we work to increase tax revenues. I will continue to work for new business developments that complement the successes on South Cedros Avenue by supporting in-scale, eclectic buildings that house distinctive cafes, boutiques and other specialty businesses. These qualities make our city a destination, not just another nondescript location.
Additionally, it’s vital we continue to ensure all individual property rights are protected and all voices are heard: those of the builder as well as those of residents.
