The second annual Surf Monkey competition is coming to the Oceanside Municipal Pier on Aug. 8. The athletic event features a 5K run/walk, a 1-mile ocean swim and a 5K run/one-mile swim combination.
Ultimate competitors can also try the 4-mile or 8-mile paddleboard/stand-up paddleboard race. The paddleboard race is a qualifier for Battle of the Paddle on Oct. 11.
The 5K will be held at 7 a.m., the combo swim/run at 7:30 a.m., the mile swim at 7:40 a.m. and the paddleboard races at 8:30 a.m.
Participants can race on their own or as part of a three-person team in the corporate challenge.
Also racing that day will be Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin, legendary waterman Dave Kalama, World Triathlete champion Michellie Jones, Ironman champion Kate Major and Ironman 70.3 champion Luke Bell.
H20 Audio, which makes high-performance waterproof headphones, is sponsoring the event. In addition to the competition, there will be live music on the beach, an interactive expo and athlete signings.
