Boys basketball:

Cathedral Catholic lost to Foothills Christian 80-63 in an Open Division championship game on March 5 at University of San Diego.

The loss followed a 55-43 semifinal victory over St. Augustine two days earlier in which McCoy led the Dons with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Beech added 11 points.

The Dons improved to 20-6 overall for the season.

Torrey Pines defeated St. Augustine 58-55 in an Open Division playoff game on March 5.

Jackson Strong scored 19 points to lead the Falcons and Dylan Bona added 12 points.

Jacob Gilliam and Hayden Helfrich contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The victory followed a 71-42 loss to Foothills Christian in a playoff semifinal the previous day in which Strong led the Falcons with 10 points.

The Falcons improved to 25-5 overall for the season.

Girls basketball:

La Costa Canyon lost to Eastlake 43-23 in a Division I championship game on March 5.

The loss followed a 56-54 victory over Granite Hills on March 4 in which Alexis Machain and Margaux Eibel each scored 14 points to lead the Mavericks and Jessica Curtis added 12 points.

The Mavericks improved to 23-9 overall for the season.

Torrey Pines lost to Bishop's 88-61 in an Open Division playoff game on March 3.

Sierra Campisano scored 36 points and had 17 rebounds and blocked seven shots to lead the Falcons.

Isabella Hoang added 16 points.

The loss followed a 66-41 defeat at the hands of La Jolla Country Day the previous day in which Campisano led the Falcons with 20 points and 12 rebounds and Hoang added 13 points.

The Falcons fell to 22-8 overall for the season.

Girls soccer:

Torrey Pines defeated Rancho Bernardo in a March 4 Open Division championship game decided by penalty kicks after the two teams were tied 1-1at the end of regulation.

Jessica Wright scored the Falcons only goal and goalie Sherrie Antoun had three saves.

The victory followed an overtime victory over La Costa Canyon on March 1 after the two teams were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 16-1-5.

Boys soccer:

Cathedral Catholic defeated San Pasqual 3-0 in an Open Division championship game on March 5.

Devon Granieri, Travis Schaniel and Nicola Giacalone each scored one goal to lead the Dons.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 15-6-2.

La Costa Canyon defeated Calexico 3-0 in a Division I championship game on March 5.

Jacob Chong, Josh Trup and Kyle Whatnall each scored one goal to lead the Mavericks.

The Mavericks improved to 15-6-4 overall for the season.

Baseball:

Torrey Pines opened the season with a 10-0 victory over San Pasqual in a nonleague Pirate Baseball Classic tournament game on March 5.

Evan Trausch had three hits to lead the Falcons and Bennett McCaskill added two hits.

Kyle Hurt contributed a solo homer.

Falcons starter Joshua Sidney, who was credited with the victory, pitched six innings of three-hit ball.

Santa Fe Christian opened the season with an 8-5 nonleague victory over Clairemont on March 4.

Bryson Hashimoto had three hits including a triple and a double and drove in two runs to lead the Eagles.

Ari Gerber added two hits including a home run and four RBI.
