Cathedral Catholic faced its toughest challenge of the year in an Oct. 24 Eastern League showdown against archrival Mira Mesa, and the Dons rose to the occasion.

The defending San Diego Section Division III champions took an early lead that established the tone for a big 31-21 victory.

The Dons improved to 3-0 in league and 7-0 overall for the season, extending their winning streak going to last season's title run to 15 games.

Jose Balistrieri scored on a seven-yard run to give the Dons a 14-0 first quarter lead they would never relinquish.

The Falcons trailed 10-3 late in the fourth quarter when they tied the game on Ringo's 29-yard scoring run.

Their only other score came at the end of the first half, when Alberto Aroeste kicked in a 38-yard field goal to send the two teams into the intermission deadlocked at 3-3.
