Football
Cathedral Catholic extended a winning streak going back to last season to 15 games as the Dons made easy work of Patrick Henry of San Diego with a decisive 66-10 Eastern League victory on Oct. 31.

The defending San Diego Section Div. III champions improved to 3-0 in league and 8-0 overall for the season. The Dons haven't experienced a loss since Sept. 28, 2007, when they suffered a 21-9 non-league setback at the hands of Otay Ranch of Chula Vista.

Cathedral Catholic standout senior running back Tyler Gaffney rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries to lead the Dons. He leads all of San Diego County and is among the state leaders with 30 touchdowns.

Dons quarterback Parker Hipp was 10-for-17 passing for 193yards. He threw for two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Alan Conklin rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns for the Dons.

Jose Balistrieri caught five passes for 86 yards. He scored the game's first touchdown on a 16-yard pass from Hipp in a decisive first quarter, when the Dons opened up a 28-0 lead.

Westview pulled off one of its most dramatic victories in program history as quarterback Tommy Hansen engineered a frantic drive in the last minute of a 31-28 victory over Rancho Bernardo in a Valley League game on Oct. 31.

The Wolverines trailed 28-24 late in the game when Hansen hooked up with Tyler Musco on a 28-yard scoring strike.

The play culminated a game for the ages for Hansen, who completed 26 of 41 pass attempts for 396 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Hansen has helped lead a stunning Westview turnaround. The Wolverines improved to 4-1 in league and 7-1 overall for the season. Last season, the Wolverines posted a 4-6 overall and lost five of their last six games.

Musco caught 11 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns and Steven Sousa caught eight passes for 129 yards.

Wolverines long distance kicking specialist Bobby Wenzig booted in a 48-yard field goal early in the game to give Westview a 3-0 lead.

Santa Fe Christian held its own for a half, but in the end the Eagles couldn't keep pace with Francis Parker in a 45-24 Coastal League loss on Oct. 31.

Sam Hoekstra rushed for 115 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries to lead the Eagles, and Trent Von Yokes rushed for 46 yards and one touchdown on six carries.

Eagles quarterback Keaton Giannotti completed a 46-yard scoring pass to Chase Weaver late in the game.

The loss dropped Santa Fe Christian to 0-2 in league and 4-4 overall for the season.

Brock Ringo rushed for 74 yards on 10 carries to lead Torrey Pines in a 37-7 loss to Fallbrook in an Avocado League game on Oct. 31.

Torrey Pines' only score came late in the game, when quarterback Lenny Magill completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Chad Dunham.
