S.D. Derby Dolls host L.A.
The San Diego Derby Dolls are set to take on Los Angeles May 15 in a finale to a winning 2009 spring season, with a current 7-1 standing.

The Derby News Network ranks the S.D. Derby Dolls seventeenth in the nation of the 360 leagues competing in all-female, flat-track, full-contact roller derby.

The debut of the Doll's Ocean Beach Party Bus is also set for May 15, with the bus leaving from Arizona Bar in O.B. at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the Party Bus include admission to the match at the Wyland Center in the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Grauer offers scholarships
The Grauer School in Encinitas has created a merit scholarship program, which grants a 50 percent to 100 percent tuition reduction to eligible incoming ninth grade girls.

"The scholarships will be granted to students who balance strong academics, athletics, established ethics, and demonstrated leadership capabilities," a recent news release stated.

The school is known for its tennis program. "Our tennis team is excelling rapidly and won their first four matches this season. We intend to add depth to our tennis program and to provide leadership opportunities for local, talented students," Stuart Grauer, head of the school, said.

For information, call (760) 944-6777.

Wave bound for nationals
The Encinitas Wave, a girls under-14 volleyball team, recently won the Far Western Junior National Qualifier in Reno for the second year in a row.

In early July, they will go on to compete in an open bid for the Junior Olympics in Miami.

The team is currently ranked fifth in Southern California's under-15 open division.

Two years ago, the team won the bronze in the Junior Olympics for the under-12 division and the bronze again the next year in the under-13 division.

Golf school comes to CV
Golf instructors will soon offer lessons to novices and scratch golfers alike, when the Dave Pelz Scoring Game School makes its first ever appearance in San Diego at the Grand Del Mar.

This world-renowned program applies a practical, scientific approach to golf instruction, developed through years of testing and research.

The clinics range from $425 to $2,545 for the three-day program. The Grand Del Mar will offer a special rate of $335 per night for students, which includes accommodations, breakfast for two daily and complimentary valet parking. In addition, students staying at the resort can also enjoy a discounted golf rate of $195. Early registration is encouraged.

Classes start July 22 at the Grand Golf Club. For more information, visit www.granddelmar.com or call 314-1930.

LeBron James clinic planned
NBA star and 2009 MVP LeBron James is set to host his King's Academy Basketball Camp from July 24 through 28 at UCSD.

The camp is open to boys and girls ages 7-17 who want to improve their hoop game and get basketball insights from James. Information and registration forms are at www.lebronjameskingsacademy.com.

Healey Stables strong at DM

Karen Healey Stables will compete this week at the Showpark Ranch and Coast Tournament May 5 to 10.
