The San Diego Derby Dolls defeated banked-track roller derby teams from across the nation this past weekend in Austin, Texas, to win the 2009 National Banked Track Championship.
The first day of the tournament featured high scoring games, while the second day featured closely matched, highly defensive, fiercely competitive games reeking of athleticism and teamwork, resulting in low-scoring games. It was an all-California final as San Diego ultimately defeated Los Angeles, 78-76.
The TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls were hosts to the second annual Battle on the Bank II to determine the top banked-track roller derby team in the nation.
The San Diego Derby Dolls compete on both flat and banked track surfaces and are currently playing their banked track games in L.A. and the flat track games at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in the Wyland Sports Center. The Derby Dolls home season returns to the fairgrounds this fall.
