Football:

- Torrey Pines High's nearly three-year postseason victory drought is over.

The Falcons defeated Otay Ranch 27-17 in a San Diego Section Div. I playoff game on Nov. 20.

Torrey Pines improved its overall record for the season to 6-5-1 as it won its first playoff game since defeating Vista in a Div. I semifinal game on Dec. 2, 2006.

The victory sets up a rematch with top-seeded La Costa Canyon (10-0) at 7 p.m. tonight. The rematch comes just two weeks removed from their last meeting, a 30-20 Mavericks victory on Nov. 13 in which the Falcons gave their Avocado League rival all it could handle.

Joseph Driscoll rushed for 112 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries to lead the Falcons against Otay Ranch.

John Wilson rushed for 64 yards and one touchdown and Kevin Cuff rushed for 50 yards, including a 20-yard scoring run late in the game that stretched the Falcons lead to 27-17.

Blake Busse kicked two field goals for the Falcons, both in the third quarter in which Torrey Pines broke a 14-14 halftime deadlock.

Busse's 45-yarder late in the third quarter gave the Falcons a 20-14 lead.

"I thought our kids played very disciplined, assignment-based football and played with a lot of passion," Falcons coach Scott Ashby said.

- San Diego Jewish Academy lost to Tri-City Christian 56-12 in a Div. V playoff game on Nov. 21.

Lions quarterback Joseph Mizrachi was 12-for-20 passing for 226 yards with one touchdown. Mizrachi also led the Lions ground game, rushing for 124 yards and one touchdown.

Freshman quarterback Micah Weinstein was 5-for-10 passing for 69 yards.

Jordan Sharf caught six passes for 148 yards and one touchdown, and Ricky Pemensky led the Lions defensively with 11 tackles and two sacks.

The upstart Lions finished their 11-man inaugural season with a 6-3 overall record.

"I felt like we overachieved all year," Lions coach John Milisitz said.

"We were probably a little bit overmatched (against Tri-City Christian), but overall it was a terrific season."

- Cathedral Catholic (9-1) had a first-round bye and will play host to El Capitan (7-4) in a Div. III quarterfinal tonight at 7 p.m.

- Santa Fe Christian (9-1) had a first-round bye and will play host to Olympian (11-0) in a Div. IV quarterfinal tonight at 7 p.m. at Torrey Pines High.

Golf:

- Cathedral Catholic standout Devon Brown finished her historic prep career with a bang.

Brown fired a highlight-reel shot to become the first Dons golfer to win the Southern California championships with a four-under-par 68 on an 18-hole course at the Southern California Golf Association in Murrieta on Nov. 16.

She shot a one-over-par 73 to finish third in the state championships three days later on the 18-hole Poppy Hills course at Pebble Beach.

At Murrieta, Brown eagled the 11th hole, hitting a 120-yard approach shot.

On the next hole, she recovered from a one-stroke penalty after hitting the ball into the lake, hitting the green on her next shot and holing a 20-foot putt to save par.

In the state championship match, Brown staged a frantic rally after a slow start in which she was five-over-par through seven holes, going five-under-par over the next 10 holes.

She came within an 8-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole of forcing a playoff against eventual champion Jenny Shin (Torrance), but settled for a bogey on the last hole.

"She put on one of the gutsiest and classiest comebacks you'll ever see," Dons coach Chris Grazier said."

- Torrey Pines placed second as a team behind Torrance in both tournaments.

The Falcons shot a 390 in the Southern California championships and a 404 at the state championships, 11 and eight shots behind Torrance.

Sarah Baek shot a 74 and Vanessa Chap and Sandy Choi each shot a 76 to lead Torrey Pines at the Southern California championships.

Baek and Choi each shot a 76 to lead the Falcons at the state championships, and Minjia Luo contributed a 79 score.

Volleyball:

- Cathedral Catholic breezed past Valley Center 3-0 (25-6, 25-15, 25-6) to win the San Diego Section Div. III title on Nov. 21.

Kelly Reeves had 18 kills to lead the Dons and Taylor Milton had 11 kills.

The Dons improved their overall record to 27-7 heading into the state tournament.

- Torrey Pines lost to La Costa Canyon 3-1 (25-14, 27-25, 25-23, 26-24) in the Div. I championship match on Nov. 21.

Katie Dutchman and Taylor McClure each had eight blocks to lead the Falcons. Dutchman also contributed eight blocks.

The Falcons fell to 25-9 overall for the season going into the state tournament.

- San Diego Jewish Academy lost to Tri-City Christian 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-20) in the Div. V finals.

Gabriella Rothman and Aliya Luther each had four kills in defeat for the Lions.

The Lions, who were making their first title game appearance, fell to 21-2 going into the state tournament.

Two-time defending state champion Santa Fe Christian was eliminated from the Div. IV tournament after losing its semifinal match to Bishop's of La Jolla 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-23).

Annie Francis had 10 kills to lead the Eagles, and Mackenzie Gilbert had eight kills.

The Eagles fell to 25-10.

Cross country:

- Torrey Pines placed three runners in the top five to capture the San Diego Section Div. I title.

Falcons standout Megan Morgan placed second, clocking a 15:39 on the 2.75-mile course at Morley Field. Rancho Bernardo's Molly Grabill (15:24) was the individual champion.

Alli Billmeyer (16:05) placed third for the Falcons, and Ashlyn Dadkhah (16:26) placed fifth.

The Falcons finished with 48 points, 26 points ahead of second-place Rancho Bernardo.

Water polo:

- Cathedral Catholic defeated Coronado 6-5 to win the San Diego Section Div. II title on Nov. 21.

Steven Perdew scored three goals and had three assists to lead the Dons, who conclude their season with a 24-4 overall record.
