Dr. Curtis Chan delivers over 20,000 lbs. of candy to the Troops

Dr. Curtis Chan's 10th annual Candy Buy Back and Candy Give Back program brought in 8,688 pounds of candy for the troops this year. In addition to the 4 tons of candy, Chan also collected 3,421 hand written cards and letters to the troops by children and donations of 168 Beanie Babies. Chan proudly delivered to Operation Gratitude a total of 20,139 pounds of candy collected by his dental office and several other dentists in the San Diego area.

Representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps were at Chan's office in Del Mar on Nov. 9, as 100 children came in to exchange bags of treats for dollar bills. Each child also left with prizes, a toothbrush kit to brush away any damage from the Halloween candy they kept and a chance to win an iPad digital basket and other great gifts.

The top contributor this year is Solana Pacific Elementary School with the top collection of 881 lbs. of candy and 1,684 cards and letters for the troops. Other contributors that Chan is so grateful for are: Santa Fe Christian Lower School, The Cambridge School, Solana Highlands Elementary, Sage Canyon School, Ocean Air Elementary, Solana Ranch Elementary, Carmel Creek School, Del Mar Heights School, U.S. Marine Corps, ABC 10 News, Del Mar Highlands Town Center, Lauren Natalie Photography, Penske Truck, Grace Point Church, Seacoast Community Church, Palacio Del Mar Community, California Pizza Kitchen, Boomers, Rubio's, CRC Encinitas, Panda Express, Vons, Scripps Performing Arts, Bonnie Maloney Real Estate Services.
