Del Mar Heights and Del Mar Hills elementary schools held a joint SkyDome Planetarium Science Night May 18 in the Earl Warren Middle School gymnasium.
Students and their parents entered the inflatable dome and were introduced to a “star-filled” sky. The navigator used a digital planetarium projector to guide students through the stars of the Northern Hemisphere exactly as they appear on the day of the presentation. Students learned how to identify every planet in the solar system in dramatic “flights” towards each world. They were introduced to Greek mythological characters and learned how these heroes of the past can be found in the stars. Students had the opportunity to witness the night sky in different seasons and from different global perspectives.
