5th annual Broadway/San Diego High School Musical Theatre Awards event to be held May 27

Broadway/San Diego recently announced that the 5th annual Broadway/San Diego High School Musical Theatre Awards, sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union, will take place on Sunday, May 27,at 6 p.m. at the Historic Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego on Sunday, May 27. It will include 20 leading Best Actress and Best Actor nominees, along with awarding Best Musical and Best Drama Teacher.

The winning Best Actor and Best Actress performers will be flown to New York for a week of intensive training before they compete in the national finals, The Jimmy Awards, on a Broadway stage for $10,000 toward a college scholarship on Monday, June 25.

Among the local participating high schools are: Canyon Crest Academy: Into the Woods (Fall), Jekyll & Hyde (Spring); Cathedral Catholic High School: Grease (Spring), 42nd Street (Spring); La Costa Canyon High School: Les Miserables (Spring); Pacific Ridge School: Once on this Island (Spring); San Dieguito Academy: Calvin Berger (Fall), Chicago: School Edition (Spring); Santa Fe Christian School: Mary Poppins (Spring).
