Casa de Amistad, a nonprofit organization that provides mentoring and tutoring for low-income, underserved students in coastal North County San Diego, will hold its annual fundraising event Saturday, April 7, at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club.

“Sowing Seeds of Success” will include a luncheon and silent auction from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the club, located at 15150 San Dieguito Road, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067. Tickets are available to the public.

The cornerstone program for Casa de Amistad is its Study Companions Program. Each student that participates in the Study Companion program meets twice weekly for 1.5 hours (Tuesdaysand Thursdays) with a volunteer mentor who helps the student with school work and character development. These sessions take place after school from September to June, following the academic calendar.

There are approximately 150 Study Companion participants at the preschool-sixth grade level, and 70 seventh-12th grade students. Most students continue with the program over the course of several years, often with the same mentor. This continuity greatly benefits the students and mentors as they develop rapport and consistency in their goal towards achieving academic success. Casa’s volunteer tutors are often professionals who tutor in their fields of expertise.Through word of mouth, the message of student success in the Study Companions program has spread, and we strive to keep up with demand. Casa de Amistad currently has 50 students on a waiting list.
