John Allcock, author of the book “Forty Things I Wish I Told My Kids: Mindful Messages About Success, Happiness, Leather, Pickles and the Use and Misuse of Imagination,” will host a free community event on Wednesday, July 18 at 5 p.m. at Sea Change Preparatory, located at 1412 Camino
The approximately one-hour presentation will provide guests with an introduction to the principles of mindfulness and discuss how these practices are being applied to education to support students’ personal and academic success. It will also explore the research behind mindfulness-based interventions and the many benefits for children and adolescents, including improved focus and concentration, decreased stress and anxiety, increased sense of calm, improved impulse control, skillful responses to difficult emotions, increased empathy, and the development of natural conflict resolution skills. At the end of the formal presentation, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session and speak directly with Allcock to learn more.
Forty Things I Wish I Told My Kids was published by Morgan James Publishing in spring 2018. What began as a series of emails Allcock wrote to his three daughters over several years has now been expanded for a wider audience, with 40 easy-to-understand mindfulness concepts designed to help parents and children alike in their pursuit of happiness, stability and self-acceptance.
Allcock has dedicated over 15 years to the practice and instruction of mindfulness. He is co-founder and director of mindfulness at Sea Change Preparatory, an innovative private “micro-school” that emphasizes mindfulness as a foundation for its rigorous academic curriculum and world-record-setting open-ocean swimming program. He is also a Harvard-educated trial lawyer and is the global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Intellectual Property Group. He lives in Del Mar with his wife, Cheryl, with whom he co-founded Sea Change Prep.
Reservations are recommended, as seating is limited. The first 10 reserved guests will receive complimentary signed copies of Allcock’s book. To learn more or to make a reservation, contact Craig Kindel at (619) 450-9925 or email email@example.com.
