Expert to speak on ‘Today’s FBI’ at Del Mar-Solana Beach Optimist meeting

The Optimist Club of Del Mar – Solana Beach will present Daron W. Borst, a 19-year veteran of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), serving as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the San Diego Division of the FBI, at its Wednesday, Feb. 21 dinner meeting at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club.

Borst leads one of four branches within the San Diego Division, comprised of 200 special agents, forensic accountants, computer forensic examiners, and professional staff.

Borst leads the FBI’s White Collar Crime Program, including major frauds, health care fraud, public corruption, and civil rights investigations. He oversees the Imperial County Resident Agency, the San Diego Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory, and Field Office Administration, Human Resources, Recruiting, and Finance. He is the division’s Crisis Manager and Commander of the FBI’s SWAT team, Hostage Negotiation Team, and Tactical Operations Center. Additionally, he serves as a peer counselor with the FBI’s Employee Assistance Program, which provides peer support and critical incident stress management/debriefing.

Borst volunteered in several nonprofit organizations focused on childhood cancer. including the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, Cowboys for Miracles, and Some of My Best Friends Are Bald (SOMBFAB). He currently is a board officer for the 4S Ranch Little League and is an active participant with the FBI’s Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association, the FBI’s Jr. Special Agent Program, and the Society of Former FBI Special Agents.

Borst holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and law enforcement administration and a master of arts degree in organizational leadership.
