‘End of Life’ program to be discussed July 23

Share

A new program that identifies patients’ wishes regarding end-of-life medical treatment will be outlined at an educational workshop set for 10 a.m. July 23 at the Del Mar Community Building, 225 Ninth St., Del Mar.

The program, known as POLST (Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment), was developed to improve the quality of patient care and reduce medical errors. The POLST form complements an Advance Directive regarding a patient’s resuscitation measures and is not intended to replace that document.

Larry Schneiderman, M.D., of Del Mar, will introduce the workshop. He has been a physician at UCSD since 1970 and is a professor emeritus in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health, and founding co-chair of the UCSD Medical Center Ethics committee. Registered nurse London Carrasco, MPH, CRN, will lead the discussion.
