Islamic art is topic for museum chapter meeting

“Challenging Muslim & Gender Stereotypes” is the topic for the May 18 meeting of the North County Chapter of the San Diego Museum of Art. Marika Sardar, the museum’s associate curator of Southern Asian and Islamic Art, will discuss the exhibit, “Lalla Essaydi: Photographs 2003-13,” scenic photographs that are covered in Arabic writing, the social statement behind the artist’s work, and the relation of European Orientalist paintings in response to the Western scholarly field of Islamic art.

The lecture will be in the parish hall of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 15th Street and Maiden Lane in Del Mar (across from the Del Mar Plaza).
