Jewish Community Center to host 2 parenting workshops this month

The Jewish Community Center will host two parenting programs this month.

From 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, Shalom Baby and PJ Library will offer “Parenting Without Power Struggles,” a workshop led by parent coach Debbie Zeichner, LCSW. In this engaging and informative workshop, parents of kids ages 3-12 will learn practical and effective techniques to help reduce power struggles, while increasing their children’s self-motivation and cooperation. Parents will also learn the secrets of what fuels power struggles, how to effectively set limits, how to guide children without nagging and yelling and how to prevent and manage power struggles when they occur.

Starting Feb. 24, Shalom Baby and PJ Library will offer the popular course, “Parenting With Positive Discipline.” This four-week course, led by Zeichner, will help parents and their families feel encouraged and empowered through nonpunitive parenting methods that help kids develop the social and life skills needed to thrive. Parents will learn effective ways to become calmer and more confident and to raise their children to be responsible, respectful and cooperative. Parents will discuss positive parenting techniques that will enable them to redirect their children’s behavior through loving guidance rather than ineffective punishment. By learning how to use positive discipline tools, parents will be able to increase “listening,” build self-esteem and strengthen relationships within their families and beyond.

Class will take place from 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesdays: Feb. 24, March 3, 10 and 17.
