Del Mar Kiwanis and Don Diego Scholarship Foundation help students from Title One schools

(L_R) Dr. Bob Siggins, Steve Gardella, Kathy Nahum (from The Don Diego Foundation) and Relda Colvin present a check for $500.

The Del Mar Kiwanis Club partners with the Don Diego Scholarship Foundation "Plant, Grow, Eat" program to provide bus transportation to the Del Mar Fairgrounds for students from Title One schools in San Diego County.

Fair staff visit Title One schools during the school year and teach students how to grow edible plants. The students then take their projects to the San Diego County Fair to be be presented and judged. Over 3,000 students participate and are provided transportation to the fair via 65 contracted buses.

Many students have never had the opportunity to attend the San Diego County Fair or even see the ocean. The bus transportation is provided through donations from a variety of groups who are dedicated to helping children. Kiwanis International and the Del Mar Kiwanis Club are supporters of children's projects throughout the world.

Anyone interested in assisting in bus transportation, can contact Kathy Nahum ( For information regarding the Del Mar Kiwanis Club, contact Steve Gardella at 858-864-8586 or Chuck Phillips at 858-354-6536. If there is no answer, please leave a message, --Submitted press release
