Junior Optimist Club members help prepare care packages at SD Food Bank

In support of "SuperBowl Of Caring" efforts to feed the needy around “Super Bowl” week, Junior Optimist Club members from the Canyon Crest Academy and Carmel Valley Middle School Junior Optimist Clubs, along with parents and friends, performed community service at the San Diego Food Bank. The young Optimists joined other volunteers in the assembly of care packages for seniors. Tasks included making boxes, loading the assembly line, filling and dating boxes, and breaking down the waste cartons.

In the end, the young Optimists were a group of 15 volunteers, with six students representing CVMS and five students from CCA. The San Diego Food Bank staff estimated that they had packaged 480 boxes, which contained about 14,000 pounds of food, enough for 12,000 meals.
