Reality Changers presented check for over $8,800 from Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary

Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary presented Chris Yanov and Lauren Tullis from Reality Changers with a donation of over $8,800 to support the great work they do with underprivileged youth. These funds were raised via DMSB Rotary’s most recent turf bocce tournament for which Reality Changers was a Major Beneficiary. Over the last five years, Reality Changers has received over $39,000 from Bocce proceeds in addition to other support from the club.

During the late 1990s, Yanov worked as a youth director near downtown San Diego. The majority of teens he worked with were involved with drugs and gangs, often leading to violence, vandalism, teen pregnancy, and even death. In 2001, believing that it is just not right that most inner-city students knew more people who had been shot or killed in the street than people who were on the road to college, Yanov started Reality Changers.

Nearly a decade and a half later, Reality Changers serves nearly 1,000 youth from disadvantaged backgrounds every year, from locations that include Solana Beach. Recently, the work it is doing caught the attention of former Mexican President Vicente Fox who has joined its Board of Directors. (
