Third grade Brownie troop #4501 from Del Mar Heights Elementary School decided to donate a portion of the almost $2,000 they raised in Girl Scout cookie sales this year. Instead of only spending the funds on an activity for their troop, they wanted to give back to the community.
Dr. Alyssa Brzenski, the troop leader, said, "The girls picked a cause that was important to them, foster pets, and created a way to give to this cause. They realized that they could help more animals by donating toys that they created themselves."
Immediately the Helen Woodward Animal Center came to mind as some of the girls have adopted pets from there, gone to camp there and earned a Brownie badge.
The girls got together and braided 150 fleece dog toys and brought them to the Helen Woodward Animal Center where they were able to meet the dogs who would enjoy their new chew toy along with cats and alpacas.
