Leaders from AAUW Del Mar-Leucadia Branch attended the 94th AAUW California Convention in Irvine, Calif. (L-R): Michele McNeil, membership director; Karen Vanderwerken, AAUW fund director; Sharon Corbett-Parry, co-president; Andrea Henne, co-president

Leaders of American Association of University Women Del Mar-Leucadia Branch were inspired by presentations at the 94th AAUW California Convention in Irvine, Calif. Co-President Andrea Henne said, “Attending the convention reminded me what an exciting and important time it is to be an active and engaged AAUW member! We have a lot of work to do together to ensure our mission of equity for all women and girls is realized. The AAUW Public Policy Priorities session gave us an overview of the issues AAUW is focused on. The gender pay gap continues to be the highest priority.”

Branch Membership Director Michelle McNeil was moved by the diverse panelists at the “Advancing Equity for All” session. She said, “Each panelist had a gut-wrenching story to tell. They encouraged AAUW members to find ways to promote diversity and inclusion when reaching out to potential new members.”

Co-President Sharon Corbett-Parry commented, “We learned so much at the convention! Now it’s time to plan our branch programs and events for 2018-2019 incorporating what we learned at convention. We are staying focused on our mission of Equity For All in this crucial time for women in this country. Our mission-based programs will be inspiring, empowering and engaging for our membership and the community. We look forward to welcoming new members to join with us as we support the mission of AAUW.”
